According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the medical assistant field is expected to be one of the fastest growing occupations over the 2008-2018 decade, and job prospects should be best for medical assistants with formal training or experience. Medical assistants serve as members of a health care delivery team, assisting with laboratory tests, operating diagnostic equipment, preparing medical reports and performing other administrative and clinical procedures. Entry-level positions are found in physicians’ offices, hospitals, medical clinics, laboratories and other health-related facilities.
