According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the medical assistant field is expected to be one of the fastest growing occupations through the year 2010, and job prospects should be best for medical assistants with formal training or experience. Medical assistants serve as members of a health care delivery team, assisting with laboratory tests, operating diagnostic equipment, preparing medical reports and performing other administrative and clinical procedures. Entry-level positions are found in physicians offices, hospitals, medical clinics, laboratories and other health-related facilities.
